2. Uso de to need como auxiliar modal (to need = necesitar, ser necesario)

Se utiliza en las secuencias interrogativas expresando necesidad u obligación y en las negativas indicando ausencia de necesidad u obligación.

 

need she eat now?, ¿necesita comer ahora?

you needn't speak English, no necesitas hablar inglés

needed you drink so much wine?, ¿era necesario que bebieses tanto vino?

I needn't be afraid of them!, ¡no tengo por qué temer de ellos!

 

 

to need también puede ser usado como verbo principal. En tal caso tiene todas las formas y tiempos correspondientes a un verbo regular.
